LIMA: WOMAN VS. SELF
depression awareness campaign
Summary: It is estimated that over 17.5 million Americans are affected by some form of depression. Of the 17.5 million, over 9.2 million have major or clinical depression with two-thirds of them not seeking any necessary treatment. This Winter 2012 WOMAN VS. SELF campaign reflects the startling statistics of depression while assisting people in awareness of symptoms, prevention, and recovery assistance to break the statistics. LIMA chooses the winter to highlight this cause because the decrease of outdoor activity has proven to increase the chances of depression due to the winter blues.
The theme of the campaign focuses its’ attention on mirrors, self reflection, and the fact that only you are in control of your depression. The campaign draws viewers in with photographic compositions paired with halftone patterns and texture. While many people believe they cannot recover from such a mental disease, it is always about having the right mental attitude to turn it around.
