Objective: Design a universal symbol that will have a long-term impact in reducing waste of consumers and their packaging. Develop a symbol that translates the three different types of bio plastic produced while keeping the set a cohesive unit, distinguished differently by small traits. Symbols must be simplified in order to be visible when printed on plastic water bottles similar to the recycling symbol.
Solution: Cereplast is a plastic developed from corn, seeded for decomposition and restorative use. The theme of the icons is a tear drop shape that reflects the seed to develop the bio plastic material along with a leaf, representative of the environment. The recyclable symbol incorporates the universal arrow while the decomposable symbol acknowledges the breakdown process.
